Article II of the Unitarian Universalist Association Bylaws, Principles and Purposes is the foundation for all the work of the UUA and its member congregations and covenanted communities. It is the covenant between UUs to affirm and promote our seven principles and six sources, but it hasn’t always been phrased the way it is today. About every 15 years, Article II is democratically updated or rewritten, and that time has come again. The proposed new version of Article II completely re-envisions the principles and sources as UU values, and reactions have been mixed. Next month at General Assembly, delegates from our church and others will vote on amendments to the proposal before a vote to approve the draft. Today’s discussion provides a great opportunity to reflect on what we want to see in our UU covenant, and your feedback will be a useful resource to your delegates at the convention!
