The weightiness of the passage of time is a long standing theme in art, poetry, and literature in many cultures. The literary motif in latin called “Ubi sunt . . .?” which translates to “Where are . . .?” engages with the poignant/wistful human feeling of the passage of life. For example, the phrase “Where are the snows of yesteryear?” evokes the memory of winters gone by. When we look at the passage of time from the standpoint of eternity or timelessness, we gain a new and detached perspective on our own mortality. Today, let’s do that together.
