“Living With Contradictions,” by Rev. Bruce Bode

We are never one thing only for the whole of our lives. In fact, we are never one thing at any given time. More than one spirit can live in us at once, and we are regularly in constant flux. Human life is often non-binary; more complex than “either/or”; or “true or false.” Rev. Bruce Bode proposes that one way we can deal with these seeming contradictions is to apply the scientific principle of complementarity.

Rev. Bruce Bode served as minister of Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Port Townsend, Washington, for 14 years, from 2004 to 2018. A Washington native, Rev Bode has spent 40 years of his life in the ministry. After graduating from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he served liberal congregations in Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas before returning to Port Townsend. He is married to his wife Flossie, and is passionate about poetry and sports, and enjoys traveling.
