A Lighthouse in Troubled Times

Reflections by Rev. Mariela Perez-Simons and Rev. Jules Taylor on making our way during troubled times.

These times are difficult, but we can partner together and prioritize our values, while still protecting our loved ones and our communities. Together we will find new solutions and ways forward.

We must become the keeper of the light and the keeper of the lighthouse: a place of refuge for the parts of us that feel like they are lost in a stormy sea at night. This pair of reflections will be read by friend of UUCR, Dr. Margaret Johnston (they/them).

Rev. Mariela Pérez-Simons (she/her) is a Cuban-American UU minister focusing on eco-spirituality, ecofeminism, and religious naturalism. She’s the producer of the weekly show “The Seed, The Soil, & The Soul.”

Rev. Jules Taylor (they/them) is a Unitarian Universalist community minister specializing in critical incident response, community crisis, and pastoral care. A former president of the Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry, Rev. Taylor has over twenty-three years of experience as an ordained minister working with communities experiencing critical incidents.
