Today we will learn something about Oscar Hammerstein II’s family background and religious beliefs. We will talk about his work in the theater, focusing on how he and his collaborators changed the nature of musical plays. We will also pay particular attention to what is widely considered his most controversial song, “You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught”: from the musical South Pacific. Finally, we will talk about how his life and work can inspire how we live our UU values today.
